Arbor Day Celebration in LBA Woods

 

The City of Olympia and Stream Team are hosting Arbor Day this year in LBA Park and LBA Woods.  Meet at the picnic shelter near the tennis courts and playground at LBA Park 3333 Morse-Merryman Road Southeast. Events will be taking place in both the woods and the park….including music by Artesian Rumble Arkestra!

Guided Bird Walk: 9 – 10:30 a.m.

Learn about and view some of the the beautiful birds that call LBA Park home. The walk through the woods will be lead by knowledgeable members of Black Hills Audubon Society. Read about the birds in LBA Woods here:

Self-guided Forest Ecology Walk: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Learn about the intricate web of life and renewal taking place in local forests. The walk will highlight topics such as identifying native plants and forest ecosystem functions.

Invasive Plants of Local Forests Workshop: 10:30 – 11 a.m.

Learn how to identify, manage and prevent the spread of problematic non-native plants. You’ll learn about the impacts of invasive species and native plants that thrive in similar conditions.

Proper Pruning Workshop: 11 a.m. – Noon

Learn about proper pruning techniques to improve plant health with skilled professionals. Hand on demonstrations held in the park.

Arbor Day Celebration: Noon – 1 p.m.

This year we will feature the Mayor’s proclamation, a presentation of the Jay Butts Friends of Trees Award, and music by the awesome energetic Artesian Rumble Arkestra. Light refreshments will be provided.

Volunteer Stewardship Event: 1 – 3 p.m.

Help improve LBA Woods habitat in the by planting native trees and shrubs and helping manage invasive vegetation. Receive a free native tree for participating. Gloves and tools will be provided, please wear sturdy shoes or boots. Register Now… external link
