PRAC takes important step in preserving LBA Woods!

We have fantastic news to share with all of our supporters! The City of Olympia’s citizen advisory board on park matters has voted to recommend that City Council authorize a fast-track feasibility study on the acquisition of the Bentridge parcel of the LBA Woods. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC) voiced a unanimous vote, with one abstention, at its June 5 meeting at the Olympia City Center.

The 72-acre Bentridge Parcel makes up nearly half of the 150-acre LBA Woods. It is located south of the existing LBA Park, adjacent to Boulevard Road, and is for sale. The LBA Woods Park Coalition is campaigning to save Bentridge from becoming a 501-unit mixed residential and commercial development. The Coalition is also pursuing the adjacent Trillium parcel, which makes up the remaining 150 acres and is currently owned by developer DR Horton.

PRAC members will present their recommendations at a special June 11 meeting of the City Council Finance Committee, which is devoted to evaluating funding options for the acquisition of the LBA Woods properties. The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. in City Council Chambers at Olympia City Hall.

The LBA Woods Park Coalition expresses its gratitude to the PRAC for recognizing the tremendous opportunity represented by the LBA Woods Park concept.
